Platypus Swimming Club had a wonderful time celebrating its 60th Anniversary on Sunday 5th July!  The Club held a BBQ at Mayflower Place in Hertingfordbury with lots of great food, entertainment in the form of a magician and a roving photo booth to commemorate the day.  A very special Club member at the event was Betty Holton, who was the original Club Secretary at its formation in 1966 and has been involved with the Club throughout its history, and who still serves as a Committee member.  The Club were honoured to welcome to the Celebration the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Anna Rankin, the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Michal Siewniak and the Mayor of Hatfield Nike Fakoya.   All of them thoroughly enjoyed the event with the High Sheriff commenting that ‘it was an absolute pleasure to be there’.  In addition, we welcomed a very special guest, representing ‘No Limits – Hertfordshire’s Year of Disability Sport & Physical Activity’ – their Ambassador Harry Arnold-Pepper who gave a great talk on his journey to becoming a talented para-swimmer.  Harry went onto say that  he “really felt honoured to be invited – it’s easy to see what a special club Platypus is”.  We were also delighted to host Communities 1st, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and Better to the event.  Platypus Swimming Club continues to go from strength to strength and this 60th Celebration served as a reminder of what a great asset to the Welwyn and Hatfield and wider Hertfordshire community the Club is.
